Campground

A quiet, secluded campground that is close to Freeport and Portland but feels like it is a world away.

Campground

A Hidden Gem

The campground at the Desert of Maine has always been a beautiful setting: the dunes, the tall Northern Pines, the wildlife, and the incredible stillness. Over the last three seasons we have poured ourselves into renovating the campground to make it live up to its surroundings. We have renovated the bath house, upgraded the water/electrical infrastructure, updated the landscaping, added lawn games, and made the sites more spacious (among other improvements). This year we are building luxury A-Frame cabins and continuing other renovations. We look forward to hosting you this year for tent and small RV camping!

Choosing Your Site

Overview

  • All of our sites are great for tents, regardless of whether they are listed as "Tent-only"  or "Tent/RV" sites in the reservation software. The entire campground is very wooded and secluded so tent campers are first-class citizens here.

  • Sites 21, 24, and 25 are hike-in sites and therefore are for tents only--that is why are a different color than the other sites. No need for a sherpa, however, the "hike" is less than 100' from where you can park.

  • All sites have water and power hookups with the exception of 25, 26, and 27.

  • A Note about Travel Trailers: our campground is surrounded by tall Northern Pines so backing up a travel trailer into many of our sites can be tricky. Our reservation software allows us to list the maximum length RV each site will accomodate but it doesn't distinguish between travel trailers and other types of RVs. A site that could easily handle a 24' Class C might only be able to handle a 16' travel trailer. Therefore, we do not list any sites as being able to handle travel trailers to prevent the situation where someone shows up with a trailer that can't fit into the site. If you have a travel trailer you have to trick the software by changing your equipment type to "van" and then check the table below to determine if your trailer will fit.
