campground road

A secluded campground that is close to Freeport and Portland but feels like you are a world away.

Opening Memorial Day Weekend.

A Hidden Gem

The campground at the Desert of Maine has always been an incredible setting: the tall Northern Pines, the wildlife, the stream that winds behind the dunes, and the incredible peace and quiet. Over the last two seasons we have poured ourselves into renovating the campground to make it live up to its surroundings. We have renovated the bath house, upgraded the water and electrical infrastructure, landscaped, and made the sites more spacious (among other improvements). We are building A-Frame cabins this year and we are continuing other renovations, but we hope you will join us for tent and RV camping!

  • Every site has a small picnic table and premium fire pit with an integrated grill

  • Most sites have water & electric (15A & 30A)

  • The bath house is ridiculous. It is clad in cedar so it actually smells good (imagine that!) and it has 3 private showers with solid water pressure and hot water.

Choosing a Site

  • We allow tents and small RVs / trailers (20' max)

  • Sites 2, 3, 24, and 27 are hike-in sites and therefore are for tents only

Site Descriptions

  • 1 - Our most spacious site. If you have a big group or multiple tents, this is the one for you

  • 2 & 3 - These are our "backwoods" sites--totally surrounded by woods. The only downside you have to take a path through the woods to get the bath house, but it's well worth it!

  • 4 - 11 - These are all very similar. They are surrounded by majestic Northern Pines and they are generally the quietest sites in the campground.  10 & 11 do not have water & electricity right now.

  • 12  - This site is enormous. You can see our neighbor's backyard down the hill but it still feels like you are in the woods.

  • 13 - 15 - These are along the "Great Wall of Wood" which is this beautiful wall made of wood.  These sites are huge and although they do not have water/electricity right now, they are still a favorite place for RV/Trailers and people who like to spread out.

  • 16 - This site is unique because it has a smaller site attached to it. The smaller site used to be its own site but we thought it was too small so we made it part of 16. It's perfect if your kids want a space for their own tent!

  • 17 - 19 - These are great sites. They are big, they back to these beautiful woods, and they are quite close to the bath house.

  • 20 - 23 - These are the sites where we will be building the A-Frame cabins so they will only be available this year until we start construction in late June.

  • 24 - Totally unique. A tent-only site overlooking the stream and the buried spring house

  • 25 & 26 - Overlooking the stream and very close to the bath house

  • 27 - The owners' favorite. A tent-only site overlooking the stream.
