Campground

A quiet, secluded campground that is close to Freeport and Portland but feels like it is a world away.

Campground

A Hidden Gem

The campground at the Desert of Maine has always been an incredible setting: the dunes, the tall Northern Pines, the wildlife, and the incredible peace and quiet. Over the last two seasons we have poured ourselves into renovating the campground to make it live up to its surroundings. We have renovated the bath house, upgraded the water and electrical infrastructure, landscaped, and made the sites more spacious (among other improvements). We are building A-Frame cabins this year and we are continuing other renovations. We hope you will give us a try this year for tent and small RV camping!

Choosing Your Site

Overview

  • All of our sites are great for tents, regardless of whether they are listed as "RV"  or "Tent" sites in the reservation software. The entire campground is very wooded and secluded so tent campers are first-class citizens here.

  • Sites 2, 3, 24, and 27 are hike-in sites and therefore are for tents only--that is why are a different color than the other sites. No need for a sherpa, however, the "hike" is less than 100' from where you can park.

  • All sites have water and power hookups with the exception of 1, 2, and 3.

  • The campground is surrounded by tall Northern Pines so backing up a travel trailer can be tricky. Therefore, we have configured our software to be very conservative about which sites allow travel trailers. The table below is the best resource for determining if your RV will fit. If you have a small travel trailer and the software doesn't show availability for you, you can change your equipment type to a van to see wider availability. Just be sure to check the table below to make sure there will be no issues!

Can fit anything. We can run an extension cord from Site 5 to deliver 20A power.
Our largest site, so it's good for large RVs and big groups. Even though it says it doesn't have electricity and water, we have an extension cord (20A) and hose at the site from Site 5, but not 30A power.

Our most secluded, woodsy site. There is a shortcut through the woods to the bath house. It's a bit of a walk (400'?), but we think it's worth it to be so secluded.

A small travel trailer (22' max?) could fit here, but the site is narrow so slide-outs and shades might be able to be deployed.
This is one of the few sites where it's pretty easy to back a travel travel into because you can line it up and back straight in. The site is skinny, but it does have a side area for the picnic table and fire ring that is 14'x10'

A unique site that backs up to beautiful woods. It has a secondary 20'x18' area (which used to be its own site) where you can set up a tent or hammock or whatever.
