Campground
A quiet, secluded campground that is close to Freeport and Portland but feels like it is a world away.

A Hidden Gem
The campground at the Desert of Maine has always been a beautiful setting: the dunes, the tall Northern Pines, the wildlife, and the incredible stillness. Over the last three seasons we have poured ourselves into renovating the campground to make it live up to its surroundings. . This year we are building gorgeous A-Frame cabins, making the sites bigger and more level, and adding a bocce court! We look forward to hosting you this year!

New A-Frame Cabins
New this year are six A-Frame cabins: three "Cozy" cabins and three "Escape" cabins. The cabins feature a wall of glass allowing you to experience the magic of being in nature in a luxurious setting.

Choosing Your Site
Overview
-
All of our sites are great for tents, regardless of whether they are listed as "Tent-only" or "Tent/RV" sites in the reservation software. The entire campground is very wooded and secluded so tent campers are first-class citizens here.
-
Sites 21, 24, and 25 are "hike-in sites" and therefore are for tents only--that is why they are a different color than the other sites on the map. No need for a sherpa, however, the "hike" is less than 100' from where you can park.
-
All sites have water and electricity hookups (15A and 30A) with the exception of site 25. Some sites have odd placements for the hookups so bring hoses and extension cords just in case.
-
A Note about Travel Trailers: our campground is surrounded by tall Northern Pines so backing up a travel trailer into many of our sites can be tricky. Our reservation software allows us to list the maximum length RV each site will accomodate but it doesn't distinguish between travel trailers and other types of RVs. A site that could easily handle a 24' Class C might only be able to handle a 16' travel trailer. Therefore, we only list a few sites in the software as being able to handle travel trailers to prevent the situation where someone shows up with a trailer that can't fit. If you have a travel trailer you should first check if your trailer will fit by looking in the table below. If you find a site that works for you can trick the software to let you make a reservation by your equipment type to "van" (18' or less).
